IKE

Due to the impending hurricane Ike, we decided to wait to start chemo until Sunday or Monday.  TCH is well prepared for what ever Ike has to offer, but just in case it's really bad for an extended period of time (as in, days) with the possibility of losing power, water and other utilities, Dr. Dreyer wants to ensure that we have everything at our disposal for Johnny's five days of chemo.

Now it looks like Ike is moving more towards the east and might not be as strong as predicted when it makes landfall.  All good news.  Otherwise not much change on our end.  I took Johnny for a ride in a wheel chair  yesterday -- just made a loop on the floor, but got him out of bed!  He wasn't too happy about the whole thing, I noticed as I pushed him down the hall he was checking out everything, so I think it may have been a good thing for him.  He also started PT -- very, very light PT -- it reminds me of the exercise show on PBS for old people where they do aerobics in their recliners.  And actually Johnny has to work up to that level -- I know it was hard for him but I could also tell he was giving it his all and impressed everyone with his perseverance. Of course he will probably sleep until tomorrow night, but that's okay, he deserves it after two days of 'action'.

With tonight's new forecast, it looks like Galveston might be in the clear as the storm moves east.  I'll update more later!

So happy to see your post; I've been checking in almost hourly, wondering if the hurricane might change the schedule, and just want you to know that I continue to pray for all of you. Glad to know that Johnny got "out and about" a little bit, and that his interest was piqued by what was around him...sometimes you just need a little change of scenery, you know? Love you guys, cy

Good waves off of Galveston today! I hope your house fairs well. I wish I was there to help.
